Ashley Tutors Gives Back

We believe in helping children get the best possible education. After starting as a traditional tutoring service years ago, we’ve changed our mission to help children of all ages learn in the most appropriate context. We meet with children after school as part of official programs, in their homes and in the homes of foster parents caring for them, in summer camps or even a counselor’s office.

Ashley Tutors began working with Wednesday's Child in 2010. We tutor 10 children every year and pledged to add an additional 100 hours of free tutoring in 2012. Read the press release announcing our free tutoring pledge.
Ashley Tutors works with children in the fourth grade who are part of low-income families at the unique Emerging Scholars Program. Children attend the 14 month program for free, supported in part by our tutors, who provide guidance as the 9 and 10 year old kids learn new skills that form the foundation of their middle and high school learning.
Joining with Travillah Elementary School and One on One Sports, Ashley Tutors created the Homework and Hoops program. Children who participated after school mixed supervised play with homework sessions led by tutors. As part of our outreach, Ashley Tutors worked with the school's staff to select a young boy and girl to receive a scholarship and participate at no cost to their family.
As part of Ashley Tutors' commitment to community learning, CEO Joshua Chernikoff has been asked to serve on the Board of Directors for Specially Adapted Resources Club (SPARC), a non-profit that provides free day support to people with disabilities. SPARC's unique "Circuit Train Your Brain" model of life-long learning helps more than two dozen people throughout Northern Virginia. Chernikoff joined the Board in 2011.
Green Hoops for Hope welcomed Ashley Tutors as part of its world record (yes, really!) for most kids simultaneously dribbling a mini-basketball. You can even watch the video of the record-breaking day.

The main message of Green Hoops is to provide awareness of environmental protection and ways for the youngest members of our community to be helped through the fun of pro basketball. The foundation gives special attention to disadvantaged communities.
Ashley Tutors is a proud Silver Sponsor for the National Race Against the Odds. Proceeds benefit The Cure Starts Now to find a homerun cure for kids with brain cancer.
